Overlapping Decorative Rod Mounted Swags/Valances
| How to Measure for Overlapping Decorative Rod Mounted Swags/Valances |
|
 |
| Overlapping Description |
| An overlapping decorative rod mounted swag/valance is a window treatment that attaches to the rod with Velcro. The Velcro is hidden from view when attached to the rod. You have great overlap flexibility with a decorative rod Velcro mount. You can have them overlap a lot or a little, it is entirely up to you.

| Measuring Your Window |
|
Measuring is very simple. Measure your window's casing-to-casing width. Then add 2" on each side to the width for your bracket position. So if your window is 36" you would add 4" for a total of 40". Then looking at the chart below, the closest measurement is the 44" pole. You would order (2)- 29" swags for that size window and make the overlap adjustment to fit your slightly smaller window. Remember, fabric has a lot of flexibility.

| Window Size Swag Count |
|
When mounting swags on a pole, the swags will overlap by one half or by one quarter. The Velcro will attach at the center point of the adjacent swag where the pole is exposed for one half over lap. You can just overlap the ends where the swag attaches to the pole for a one quarter overlap. Pole swags come in two sizes, 29" and 38". We offer the two sizes to give you more options when fitting them for your windows. Pole swags work well with an even or odd number of swags.
Below is our guide for various window sizes for both the 29" and 38" swag size. You shouldn't mix the two sizes together on one window. The 29" and 38" each have their own product SKU for easy ordering.

We recommend that you use a 1-3/8" or larger decorative wood or metal pole. We have many options in our drapery hardware department.

| Rod Installation |
|
Installing an outside mount decorative curtain rod is a very easy project. We recommend that you mount the brackets 2" wider on each side of the window casing. We also recommend that you install the brackets a couple of inches higher than the top of your window to entirely hide the top casing with your swags. We always recommend putting the window treatment on the rod and then holding them up on your window. Try a couple of different positions and pick the one you believe looks the best.
Generally, within a few inches of your window casing there will be wood under the dry wall supporting the window frame. If that is the case, you will just need the screws that came with the rod to secure it to the wall. The best way to check for wood under the dry wall is to first mark the holes where you plan to position the brackets. Then take a small nail and tap it through the mark. If the nail doesn't hit anything, then you will need a dry wall anchor to secure the bracket in place. |
