The Industry standard return size for any board mounted valance  is 3-1/2″ .  When installing drapes under your valance as shown in this picture, you will have to go out to about 5-1/2″ on your return.  All custom window treatments are going to vary depending upon your situation.

The definition of a valance return is the “distance from the front of the window treatment to the wall.  Again, most valances are made at 3 1/2″ returns but we can make it at any size you need from 2″ up to 7″.

If you are purchasing a rod mounted valance from us, your return size will most likely default to 3 1/2″ to accommodate your continental rod.  The fabric should wrap around the continental rod to cover it.
