Interior Design Advice For Your Home Or Apartment Including Draperies

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Do you love interior design and wish that you could turn your home-decorating visions into gorgeous reality? Well, you can do just that. This article offers some fantastic advice, useful tips and nifty tricks to help you get started. Use this advice to help you create spaces that you can be proud of.

Make sure that you have a budget when you are planning to change the interior design of your home. It is easy to get carried away by the gorgeous draperies and decorative items that you see in home magazines. You would not want to go into big debt just to make your house look better.

Anyone who is designing a room in their house would be wise to incorporate hang art on the walls. Artwork does a great job of making your room look complete. Just make sure you choose a piece or two that meshes with the current decor of the room you are designing.

Use brightly colored fabrics to add a bit of life to a drab room. A few decorative pillows or a throw in a brightly colored fabric can add instant appeal to an otherwise boring room. Continue the theme with a piece of artwork or a vase of flowers featuring the same color, tying the room together.

It’s very common for a home to have at least one small room that needs to feel larger than it really is. To make small rooms look bigger, try painting the walls using light colors. Dark colors in small rooms make the room look even smaller that it is.

Lighting is an essential part of every room. Lighting develops a mood. In rooms that need a positive, energetic feeling, such as the bathroom and the kitchen, using bright lights is a great idea. In contrast, though, bright lighting can spoil the effect you’re shooting for if you want to make a room feel calmer and more subtle. Try suing dimmer lights in bedrooms and living rooms if you want a mood like that.

Always keep functionality in mind when you’re designing a room. You need to consider your day to day usage of the room. Ask yourself if certain features will inhibit your day to day usage. Will it become hard to maneuver around? Will it become distracting and hinder you? Your room should be functional above all else.

Now that you have a better understanding of what is required to create those rooms that wow, you can get started on creating your own amazing spaces. If you implement the tips and tricks offered above, you will be designing up a storm in no time flat. Get started today.

Guide To Interior Design At Home & Decorative Curtains

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Living in your house may have become boring to you, just because it looks the same. Fear not! You can always do a little interior design and freshen up your house. Just by making little changes, you can see a huge effect. Here are some great interior design tips to think about.

Use many levels of lighting. By utilizing lighting in your design you can accomplish multiple looks in one room. An overhead light is typically necessary, but try installing a dimmer switch so you can vary the level and create ambiance in the evening. Install accent lighting to bring focus to art pieces. Task lighting is also important for reading nooks or kitchen prep areas. Multi-level lighting will allow you to create many vibes with one design.

When considering an interior-design project you should think about starting in the most popular room of the house. Interior design can be both a lot of work and cost a lot as well. If you want to get the most out of your work and money, you should decorate the room that you will enjoy the most first.

What is the function of the room you are planning to decorate? While you are planning the project, it is important to think about what the room will be used for. How many people will be using this room? For instance, if you are designing a family room, you will need quite a bit of seating.

Start with a fresh coat of paint. Paint is inexpensive and can make a big change to a room in just a few hours. Go to your local home store and get swatches. Then, come home and imagine what each swatch would look like, and how it would blend with the furniture and other rooms in your home. Choose one and see how different your room looks!

If you are buying antique furniture and want to add some flair you can always buy modern handles and hardware for it. You will have a nicely built piece of furniture, and it will look modern to add a new touch to a room. There are many different types of hardware available to suit any style.

Single width Decorative Curtains can be added to windows inexpensively.  You can customize the length and pick from thousands of beautiful fabrics. There is nothing that can make such a dramatic change to a room design.

By taking on one of the ideas in this article, you can make your home look more exciting, and you can be more comfortable. Just try out the tips here, and you will see which you like. A better looking home may be just what you need, and now that you have read this article you can get it.

Curtain and Drape Lining Options

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

There are several options for lining your curtains and drapes, but before we describe each, it is important to understand why lining is even necessary.  You can buy curtains online without lining and save a few dollars.  We would never recommend any customer consider this short term advantage.  The primary reason for curtain and drape lining is to protect the designer fabric from the sun’s damaging UV rays.  Direct sunlight is the most harmful, but indirect sunlight will eventually cause the same damage.  Adding lining to the curtains and drapes will dramatically cut down or even completely stop the damaging effects.

Standard curtain and drape lining is typically a cotton or a cotton blend fabric.  It will do a very good job of blocking the UV rays and protecting the designer fabric.  Light will still filter through the curtains and drapes.  Many people like the subtle light filtering of standard lining.

Thermal or Premium curtain and drape lining can be a 100% cotton or a blend.  It is a thicker and more dense fabric with excellent UV blocking properties.  Light will still filter through, but to a lessor degree.  This lining also has better thermal properties helping reduce cold drafts in the winter months and the sun’s heat in the summer.

Blackout curtain and drape lining does exactly as the name implies.  The lining is a “sandwich” of materials that completely blocks all penetration of sunlight.  There is no light filtering.  Blackout provides the best protection from the sun.

Drape and curtain interlining is a third layer of fabric that is added between your designer fabric and the lining.  Interlining is a technique designers use to give a curtain and drape “extra body”.  Although silk fabrics are very expensive, they are very lightweight by nature.  Adding interlining to silk drapes gives the finished product a very nice hanging property.  Interlining also add another layer to the fabric protection, but its primary purpose it to give the finished product a beautiful appearance.

Pleated Curtains

Saturday, December 29th, 2012

One of our best selling curtains or curtain style drapes is our Pleated Curtains.  Pleated curtains are the same as French pleat curtains or french pleat Drapes.  There are a few different styles of pleated curtains.  Our best seller is our traditional pinch pleated curtain.  The pinch pleat is a three – finger pleated curtain.  What this means is that the header of the curtain is fanned or pleated 3 times and pinched at the bottom to give you a fan look.  We also offer a single pinch pleat drape and a double pinch pleat curtain.  The difference of these two style window treatments is that the pleat would have only 1 pleat or 2 pleats versus 3 pleats.  The most formal and traditional style is the standard is the three finger pinch pleat curtain.

The next style which is a more modern updated look is the inverted pleat curtain.  This style is also a pleated curtain however the pleats are pinched at the top so you do not get the fan look at the top of the header.  Instead you would have the pleats at the bottom.  The advantage to the inverted pinch pleat curtain is that is will create a more full look and less formal.  The look is more relaxed since the pleats are started from the very top of the header.

Both styles above will have buckram at the top of the header.  Buckram in the header serves as a stiffener at the top of your curtain.  The Buckram is essential to secure the drapery pins.  There is one style pleated drape called the fan pleat curtain that does not have buckram at the top.   Without buckram you will have a more relaxed look as opposed to the french pleat that is much more formal.

All pleated draperies are very beautiful and are custom made to order. Having a custom made drapery in your home will add value and beauty for years to come. For more ideas on custom window treatments, please contact us for design help.  www.fabricworkroom.com

Velvet Curtains

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

velvet curtainsAdding texture to your room is easy with velvet curtains giving your room a soft look.  However not all velvet curtains are the same.  By adding tassel fringe or drapery trim to your velvet curtains you will make them look very formal.  The picture here is more contemporary if you are looking for modern decorating or contemporary curtains.  You can change the look of the room purely by the style and color of curtains you select.  For example, if you are going for a traditional style in your living room, you may select a gold velvet with tassel trim.  The drape or curtain style best suited for traditional curtains would be a pinch pleat drape or french pleat drape.  If you want a more contemporary look for your living room, we would recommend a grommet curtain or grommet drape.  The color velvet you select for you window treatments has a lot to do with the look and feel as well.  For more modern, you may want to  look at ivory velvet fabric or even purple velvet fabric.  This is going to give your room a more contemporary modern look.  We have 10 glorious velvet colors to select from.  Get free swatches in our Marcy Velvet fabric for  the most luxurious velvet curtains.

When decorating an picking out fabrics for custom window treatments, pillows, valances, drapes and custom bedding there are a couple of rules to follow.  If you want a more contemporary style, you should pick one color and select different shades.  For example, you may want to select cream color curtains, a cream couch and a stark white carpet.  You accent pillows could also be shades of bone, cream and off white and typically one pop color or geometric print to stand out.  If you want a more traditional style, you would select a fabric with a floral, damask or scroll pattern and then select a few different solids to play off that print, include a stripe fabric and/or a plaid fabric.  Traditional decorating is generally more busy and modern would be more monochromatic and streamlined.
