Few home improvement projects can have the type of major impact a solid, well-planned interior design scheme can. The critical part of developing such a plan is having the sort of in-dept knowledge of the topic necessary to make your complete vision a reality. Take the concepts and guidance in the article below to heart, and you will soon be designing interior spaces that are the envy of the neighborhood.
Look at the furniture and custom window treatments you have on your home and find a combination of colors and furniture that fits well together. You want to have furniture colors that compliment each other, as well as the colors around your home. Avoid picking colors that aren’t related, because this can look like you don’t know style.
Figure out what mood you’re trying to set and use that as the basis for your color choices. If you want it to be relaxing or calming, consider using light and cool colors like blues and greens. Your color choices and your choice of furniture should all be based on what you’re trying to accomplish with the look and feel of the room.
One of the easiest steps in interior design involves painting a room. Paint gives a room a fresh look, and it can completely change the feeling in the space. Paint allows you to put a dash of your individual style in the space, and it is an inexpensive way to begin redesigning your home.
Picking the right colors is essential for every design project. You can find advice on what colors you should never combine online and in decorating magazines if you are not sure. You should also be wary of using a lot of bold colors in a single room.
If you are decorating a smaller room or space, try to incorporate mirrors into your design. Mirrors create the illusion of larger space, and add depth and beauty to the room’s design as well. Interesting, unique frames can also enhance the decor of the space, turning a mirror into a work of art.
Interior design has the ability to utterly transform the mundane and turn it into something that is visually stunning and eminently functional. In order to accomplish this feat, every budding designer must take the time to educate themselves properly on the subject. With any luck, the ideas and tips in the piece above have provided just the sort of foundation you need to get started.

One of our best selling curtains or curtain style drapes is our Pleated Curtains. Pleated curtains are the same as French pleat curtains or french pleat Drapes. There are a few different styles of pleated curtains. Our best seller is our traditional pinch pleated curtain. The pinch pleat is a three – finger pleated curtain. What this means is that the header of the curtain is fanned or pleated 3 times and pinched at the bottom to give you a fan look. We also offer a single pinch pleat drape and a double pinch pleat curtain. The difference of these two style window treatments is that the pleat would have only 1 pleat or 2 pleats versus 3 pleats. The most formal and traditional style is the standard is the three finger pinch pleat curtain.
The next style which is a more modern updated look is the inverted pleat curtain. This style is also a pleated curtain however the pleats are pinched at the top so you do not get the fan look at the top of the header. Instead you would have the pleats at the bottom. The advantage to the inverted pinch pleat curtain is that is will create a more full look and less formal. The look is more relaxed since the pleats are started from the very top of the header.
Both styles above will have buckram at the top of the header. Buckram in the header serves as a stiffener at the top of your curtain. The Buckram is essential to secure the drapery pins. There is one style pleated drape called the fan pleat curtain that does not have buckram at the top. Without buckram you will have a more relaxed look as opposed to the french pleat that is much more formal.
All pleated draperies are very beautiful and are custom made to order. Having a custom made drapery in your home will add value and beauty for years to come. For more ideas on custom window treatments, please contact us for design help. www.fabricworkroom.com

Adding texture to your room is easy with velvet curtains giving your room a soft look. However not all velvet curtains are the same. By adding tassel fringe or drapery trim to your velvet curtains you will make them look very formal. The picture here is more contemporary if you are looking for modern decorating or contemporary curtains. You can change the look of the room purely by the style and color of curtains you select. For example, if you are going for a traditional style in your living room, you may select a gold velvet with tassel trim. The drape or curtain style best suited for traditional curtains would be a pinch pleat drape or french pleat drape. If you want a more contemporary look for your living room, we would recommend a grommet curtain or grommet drape. The color velvet you select for you window treatments has a lot to do with the look and feel as well. For more modern, you may want to look at ivory velvet fabric or even purple velvet fabric. This is going to give your room a more contemporary modern look. We have 10 glorious velvet colors to select from. Get free swatches in our Marcy Velvet fabric for the most luxurious velvet curtains.
When decorating an picking out fabrics for custom window treatments, pillows, valances, drapes and custom bedding there are a couple of rules to follow. If you want a more contemporary style, you should pick one color and select different shades. For example, you may want to select cream color curtains, a cream couch and a stark white carpet. You accent pillows could also be shades of bone, cream and off white and typically one pop color or geometric print to stand out. If you want a more traditional style, you would select a fabric with a floral, damask or scroll pattern and then select a few different solids to play off that print, include a stripe fabric and/or a plaid fabric. Traditional decorating is generally more busy and modern would be more monochromatic and streamlined.

 Curtain Length
One of the most common questions that people ask us is “how long should my curtains be?” The curtain length is very important and one of the most important factors when doing custom made drapes to order. You can purchase ready made drapes at 78 or 96″ long but what if you need 90.5″ exact? This is when people turn to us and have their drapes and curtains custom made. If you are going to do the research and pay the money to get them perfect, you my as well get them perfect.
We have very detailed measuring guidelines for you to figure out your curtain length. The best was to measure for your curtain length is to do it without having the rod up and then order your curtains. This will give you a little bit of wiggle room. If you do happen to have your curtain rods or curtain hardware already up, then your measuring from the top of the rod most likely. It really depends upon the product that you are ordering so always call us to ask and double check. We have customer service reps that can walk you through measuring for your custom drapes.
In this picture we are showing drapes with sheer curtains. The sheer curtains are usually 1/2 shorter than the decorative drapery. Most of the time these are hanging on a double rod, however you can put the sheers on a separate rod behind the drapery rod. Just make sure you account for the shorter length when putting sheer curtains under your curtains.

To calculate the total length of your table runner, measure your table from end to end. F or your Table Runner measuring follow these simple steps.
#1. Decide on how much drop you desire (6″ drop on each side is common). Add the table length plus the desired drop multiplied by 2 to get the total length. If you table was 48″ long, your calculation using a 6″ drop is: (48″+6″+6″=60″ total length)

Now that HGTV’ Destination Design has aired, it is great to see how our window treatments helped to transform some of the rooms. With only 2 episodes shown to date, the rooms have been beautifully designed by designer Taniya Nayak inspired by the homeowner’s travels. The first episode the couple traveled to Turks and Caicos and was attracted to the vibrant colors of the sea and beautiful shells and sails. They returned to a home full of color and gorgeous decor with all the fabulous HGTV Design ideas. The window treatment drapery panels and sheer curtains were reminiscent of the Caribbean. We were so happy to see the textured drapes and sheer drapes incorporating in the rooms. The fabrics were a perfect match and the show’s featured couple was ecstatic.
In the 2nd episode the homeowner traveled to Austin, Texas and was inspired by the color of a local berry plant. Taniya’s vision for this room was an Austin Cavern Berry Living Room. The walls were painted a light tone of purple and the deep purple back tab drapery panels were a perfect accent on the windows. She added 2 pillows against the white couch in the “pop” deep berry color. Such an array of fabrics, textures and colors truly made both rooms remarkable.
Stay tuned for upcoming episodes on Saturdays at 1:30 pm. A show not to be missed!
