Shower Curtain Grommet

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

A shower grommet is a small 3/8″ metal that is “punched” into the shower curtain header to accommodate your shower hooks.  The hooks rest on your shower rod and slide on the rod for easy opening and closing.

The Shower curtain grommet can be ordered in nickel or bronze.

The other type of grommet is a larger and primarily used for drapery.  If you want the larger grommet for your shower curtain, you would have to order it from the drapery department and request it be unlined.  We recommend that you speak to our design department before ordering the large grommet.

Shower Curtain Liners

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

When Ordering a custom size shower curtain it is important to make sure the shower curtain liners will match in size.  We make extra long shower curtain liners and shower curtains to fit all your needs.

  • When order a custom size shower curtain liner, it is recommended that you follow a couple of simple rules.  Click on the “Measuring” link below for instruction on how to measure.
  • Measure from the shower rod to the inside of the tub or shower stall
  • On a tub, take off a two or three inches.  You do not want the liner to puddle at the bottom of the tub.  This is a recipe for mold and mildew.
  • On a shower stall, measure to the bottom of the shower pan and take off a perhaps just an inch.  You want to make sure it overlaps the curb, but does not puddle.

Rings sewn on to draperies

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
  • With the exception of Rod Pocket drapes, all drapes require drapery pins so they can be attached to a variety of hardware options.  Drapery pins are small metal hooks attached to the back of the drape and are not visible into the room.
  • When using decorative hardware, the pin slips into a tiny eyelet on the decorative ring and holds the drapery in place.
  • As an option, have  rings sewn on to draperies and thus pins would not be used.  Some drape styles such as the Flat Panel cannot use pins and the rings must be sewn on to draperies.

Shower Curtain Button Hole

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

On a shower curtain, we use grommets or sewn button hole.  A shower curtain button hole is made by a machine that applies a heavy amount of thread around the button hole opening.  The extra thread strengthens the hole and gives it a nice finished look.

Self Lined Window Treatments

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Self Lining uses the same face fabric as the lining material.  Self lined window treatments are used when parts of the back side of the window treatment is exposed into the room or it is determined to simply look better on that particular product.

Self Lining is also a common term used in bedding and pillows.

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

fabricworkroom.com custom table runnerTo calculate the total length of your table runner, measure your table from end to end.  F or your Table Runner measuring  follow these simple steps.

#1. Decide on how much drop you desire (6″ drop on each side is common).  Add the table length plus the desired drop multiplied by 2 to get the total length.  If you table was 48″ long, your calculation using a 6″ drop is: (48″+6″+6″=60″ total length)

rings with clips

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Ring clips attach to the drapery fabric when drapery pins are not used or not wanted.  Drapery rings with clips can be made visible by attaching to the top of the drape or completely hidden by attaching to the back of drape pleat.  The pictures below show the actual clip and also a wood ring with a clip attached.  These are best used with  flat panel.

Reverse Sham

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Most Bedspreads are made with a standard sham that tucks under the pillow and around the back.  You may opt to have the fabric come forward as shown below.  This is called a Reverse Sham.  A reverse sham is 20″ of additional fabric attached to your bedspread or coverlet at the top of the product on the reverse side.  When you make the bed, the pillows are placed at the top of the bed and the reverse sham is “flipped” up and over the pillows.

Railroaded Fabric

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Fabric on most products runs north to south (top to bottom).  Railroaded fabric runs east to west (left to right).  On specific products  like this railroaded fabric cornice and fabrics such as solids, the workroom will railroad the fabric to eliminate seams. On flat valances and window treatments if you can have the fabric railroaded it is the way to go.  Remember that this only applies for valances that over 45″ wide.  If you are under 45″ you will not have to worry about vertical seams since fabric is generally 54″ wide off the bolt.

Privacy or Decorative Drapes

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Drapes can be used strictly for decorative purposes or for privacy.  You will need to decide if you want privacy or decorative drapes and we will explain it to you.

If you want to close the drapes for privacy, you need to measure the window from end of casing to end of casing.  We recommend adding 8-10″ on each side if you have a slider or larger window for stacking.  Please enter that final measurement when you place your order.

If you want decorative panels that you are not planning on closing, you should order approximately 48″ wide for a standard size window.  Each panel would measure 24″ wide when pleated.
